Website Uptime Checker
Check whether a website is responding right now.
Monitor your website free every 5 minutes and get alerted when it goes down.
# What does the website uptime checker test?
When you enter a URL, URLGoose performs a direct HTTP request from our monitoring infrastructure in Canada. This immediate test checks whether the destination server responds, how quickly it answers, and whether its web configuration is functioning properly.
- Availability & Reachability: Confirms that DNS resolves and the server accepts inbound network connections on standard ports.
- HTTP Status Code: Verifies if the server returns 200 OK, a redirect (301/302), a client error (404), or a server failure (500/503).
- Response Time: Measures the round-trip latency in milliseconds from initial dispatch to server response.
- SSL / TLS Security: Validates certificate status and checks whether HTTPS handshakes complete safely.
To prevent abuse, responses are safe and non-intrusive: response bodies are not stored or reflected, and requests to private networks or loopback addresses are blocked.
# A one-time check isn't continuous monitoring
A manual test only shows how your website responds right now. URLGoose monitors it continuously, checking every 5 minutes on Free or every 60 seconds on Pro. If a check fails, URLGoose checks again before declaring an outage and sending an alert.
